Platinum Firmware Update Instructions
Overview
The Platinum Bill Acceptor supports both firmware updates and configuration changes using a PC or a USB flash drive. This unit does not use DIP switches or configuration cards. Once configured, all settings are stored internally and persist even when power is removed.
You will need the Platinum Tools application.
Using a PC
You can configure the Platinum acceptor and perform updates by connecting to a PC via USB cable. Two USB ports are used.
USB Port (Type-A)
This is the standard USB port found on most PCs. Connect this end of the cable to a matching port on your PC.
USB Port (Type-B)
Located on the rear of the Platinum bill acceptor, this port is used to establish a direct USB connection between the acceptor and the PC. Connect the other end of the cable to this port.
Step 1:
Using an external power source, power on your Platinum bill acceptor.
Step 2:
Locate your PC flash download cable and connect the USB Type-A end to an available port on your Windows PC.
Step 3:
Using the same cable, connect the USB Type-B to the port located on the back of the Platinum unit, as shown in the image below.
Step 4:
With all connections made and the unit powered, open the Platinum Tools software by double-clicking the desktop icon.
Step 5:
Once the Platinum Tools program is open, you will see the current firmware version, connection status, and the active COM port. Verify the connection as shown in the example screen below.
Step 6:
Click the “Firmware” button in the tools program to begin the update process.
Step 7:
On the Firmware screen, click the “Browse” button to select your desired firmware file.
Step 8:
Navigate to the location of the firmware file (with the extension .ptix), highlight it, and click “Open.”
Step 9:
Once the file is selected, click “Flash Update” to begin the firmware installation.
Step 10:
Once complete, you will see a message stating “Update Complete.”
Using a USB Flash Drive
You can configure the Platinum acceptor and perform updates by connecting a USB flash drive containing a firmware or configuration file. A single USB port is used.
USB Flash Drive Port (Type-A)
This is the standard USB port found on most PCs. Connect the USB flash drive to the back of the acceptor using this port.
Step 1:
Verify that the USB drive is formatted as FAT or FAT32. You can find instructions on formatting the flash drive here.
Step 2:
Copy the single Pyramid firmware file (with the extension .ptix) to the USB flash drive. Ensure that this is the only *.ptix file on the drive.
Step 3:
Insert the USB drive into the Platinum bill acceptor you wish to update.
If the drive is recognized (this may take a few seconds), the rear diagnostic LEDs will provide user feedback. Refer to the LED status table for details.
Step 4:
The AutoRun function will execute automatically, giving a short LED signal before the unit resets and begins the firmware update.
Once the update is complete, the unit will reset automatically. If the unit does not reset and displays an Error, remove the USB drive, reinsert it, and try again.
At this point, your firmware update is complete.
